This Java applet simulates the one-dimensional transient conduction in a semi-infinite solid.

Press the button     to see the visual representation of the transient conduction in a semi-infinite solid.

The solid is composed of a homogeneous conducting material. The border (left side of the picture) is exposed to a fluid. There is a convection heat transfer between the border and the fluid.

The graph illustrates the time evolution of the change in the wall temperature along the solid cross-section. One can follow the temperature in a certain depth by clicking on the solid before the initialisation. The thermal properties and the position of interest cannot be changed during the simulation.

A real body ( limited depth) can be simulated by this analytical solution for a semi-inifinite body as long as the temperature at the maximum depth in the body has not changed and is still the  initial temperature.
